Microwave-Assisted Semisynthesis and Leishmanicidal Activity of Some Phenolic Constituents from Lichens

Leishmaniasis is considered one of the most untreated tropical diseases in world. In this study, we investigated vitro leishmanicidal activity and cytotoxicity various isolated lichen substances, including atranorin (1), usnic acid (2), gyrophoric (3), salazinic (4), galbinic (5), parietin (6), some semi-synthetic imine derivatives (7, 8, 9) (10, 11, 12, 13). Imine condensation reactions with hydrazine several amines were assisted by microwave heating, an efficient eco-friendly energy source. The interesting result was obtained for compound 2, which has high but also cytotoxicity. This mitigated its derivative, 9, better selectivity antileishmanic activity. may indicate that derivative (9) using two cyclohexylamine groups a promising lead discovery new semisynthetic antiparasitic drugs.
